Lasse Bjoerns Hockeyroll
Origin
A flatbread roll named after one of Swedish hockey's greatest legends, Lars "Lasse" Björn, who played no fewer than 217 international matches, is one of the most prominent flatbread rolls in Nyhetsgrillens Hall of Fame.

Jan keryakes
Jan Keryakes has run Nyhetsgrillen since 2005
Jan at Nyhetsgrillen got the idea for his Hall of Fame in 2019 when news editor Anderas Johansson visited the stall. His Hall of Fame roll is called "A-J Nyhetschefen Special". Since then, many other well-known people have visited the stall and some of them have also been inducted into Nyhetsgrillens Hall of Fame.

Nyhetsgrillen
Famous for its hall-of-fame and large selection of luxury flatbread rolls. Was before 2006 only about 12 m2 with only a hatch. Jan Keryakes, who previously ran the family's grill kiosk Jarla Grillen, took over the grill after an acquaintance in 2006. The kiosk may be one of Stockholm's smallest.
In autumn 2021, Jan Keryakes got to meet the legend Lars "Lasse" Björn himself, and was given permission to name a flatbread roll after him.

Recipe
Below is the recipe for Lasse Björn's Hockey Roll, adapted for home preparation in a regular kitchen. The recipe is sized for 2 rolls.
The original can be enjoyed at Nyhetsgrillen.
Ingredients
Flatbread
- 2 large soft flatbreads from Polarbröd
Sausage
- 4 German Kabanos sausages from Solna Korv (Bromma Chark works as a substitute)
Mashed Potato
As mashed potato is practically sacred at food stalls and recipes are closely guarded, we use standard ingredients for mashed potato.
- ½ kg potatoes
- 1 dl milk
- ½ tbsp butter
- approx. ½ tsp salt
- approx. 1 pinch white pepper
- approx. ¼ pinch nutmeg
Shrimp Salad
- Solna Korv's shrimp salad (Rydbergs works as a substitute)
Toppings
- 4 slices fried bacon
- Cheddar cheese
- Lettuce
- Crispy fried onion
- Pickled onion
- Raw onion
- JOHNNY’S Ketchup
- JOHNNY’S Sweet-Hot Mustard
Instructions
Prepare the mash
As mashed potato is practically sacred at food stalls and recipes are closely guarded, we use a standard recipe for mashed potato.
- Peel and rinse 1 kg of floury potatoes.
- Cut the potatoes into cubes.
- Boil the potatoes in salted water for 15 minutes.
- Mash the potatoes (use a masher, hand mixer or as a last resort a fork).
- Thin the mash with 1 dl of warm milk.
- Add a knob (approx. ½ tbsp) of butter (margarine as a last resort, but it won't taste nearly as good).
- Season to taste with salt, nutmeg and white pepper.
Prepare the toppings
- Finely shred the lettuce.
- Thinly slice the onion.
- Fry the bacon until crispy.
Prepare the flatbread
- Gently heat the bread.
- Butter the bread.
Assemble the flatbread roll
Try to place the ingredients in such a way that you get a bit of everything in each bite.

- Place the bread with the rounded side facing you.
- Place a few strips of bacon in the centre of the flatbread.
- Spread a thin layer of lettuce in the centre of the flatbread.
- Spread raw onion on top of the lettuce.
- Place two portions of mash on top of the lettuce.
- Spread a layer of cheddar cheese to cover the mash.
- Place the two sausages in the mash one sausage-width apart. If needed, press them down slightly so they sit further into the mash.
- Spread a little pickled onion on top of the sausages and mash.
- Drizzle mustard on top of the sausages and mash.
- Drizzle ketchup on top of the sausages and mash.
- Place some shrimp salad on top of the sausages and mash. Make sure to use enough shrimp salad to cover both the sausages and mash.
- Place 2 slices of bacon alongside the mash.
- Sprinkle crispy fried onion over the sausages. Aim for a layer approximately two sausage widths wide.
Rolling
Lasse Björn's Hockey Roll should ideally be rolled using Jan's own variant of the rolling method, but until that is documented we recommend the standard rolling method.
